Portfolio of Hope

Recovery is about so much more than weight gain. To be in ‘true’ recovery, your mindset has got to change.

‘But I’m weight restored!’ It doesn’t matter. If your thoughts around food are still disordered, you are not in recovery. Anorexia is a mental illness, and whilst the physical symptoms should not be ignored, they only make up a very small aspect of the illness. The voices in your head telling you that you’re ‘fat’ and you’re ‘not good enough’, that’s what caused you to loose weight in the first place, so you need to overcome those voices . What’s the point in focusing entirely on becoming weight restored so that you can ‘get the services off your back’, if the voices are still there, urging you to restrict day in, day out. Change your mindset and you will maintain recovery, but if you ignore the mental symptoms, you will inevitably be setting yourself up for relpase. Don’t let that happen. Commit yourself to true recovery today, for you only get one shot at this life, so live it. Don’t stay trapped in this position, your entire being consumed by your eating disorder. It’s time for you to break free.

Please choose life over your eating disorder.

Take care of yourselves.
