Portfolio of Hope

People think that
‘forgiveness’
and
‘forgetting’
go hand in hand.
The widely used quote;
‘forgive and forget’
causing people to believe that the two are
‘mutually exclusive.’
They are,
however,
not mutually exclusive.
In fact,
to ‘forgive’,
in my eyes,
is actually the opposite of what it means to ‘forget.’
For,
to forgive someone whose really hurt you,
it takes a lot-
a lot of remembering things,
things that one would rather not remember,
a lot of deep ‘soul searching’,
the reliving of,
oftentimes painful memories,
memories that make it impossible to forget.

What forgiving does allow though,
is,
not the chance to ‘forget’ past events,
but the chance to heal from them.
And,
with the saying;
‘hurt people hurt people’
being,
in my opinion,
of great truth,
so many of us are in desparate need
of healing/
The whole world is.

It is only when we allow ourselves to heal,
collectively,
that less forgiveness will be needed,
as a collective,
for,
there will be less pain being caused
that needs forgiving,
and,
there will be fewer memories
that need forgetting.

So
please:
heal
world,
heal.
