That ‘bit of fat’ that you don’t like on your lower stomach?
It’s there to protect your reproductive organs-
your ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus-
to allow you to bring life into the world
through your body.
Those ‘wobbly’ thighs that you don’t like?
They allow you to hike up mountains,
to experience all the beauty that life has to offer
through your body…*
*through your body which does so much for you-
so much for us all–
and yet, through your body which you’re constantly berating,
looking past the good
to see only the supposed ‘bad.*’
And so, I know it’s hard,
my love,
but, please,
try to be kind to yourself-
for, to your body you owe everything,
and yet you, so often, give it absolutely nothing
(It’s time to change that, though, don’t you think)?
You don’t need to start loving your body
(though, that would be nice, one day),
you just need to appreciate it-
you ‘just’ need to start appreciating all that it does for you
day-in, day-out.
