‘Namaste‘:
Pronounced Nah-Muh-Stay.
2 contexts:
- ‘Straight‘ translation= a greeting
‘Namah’= ‘bow’, ‘Te’= ‘to you.’
Literal meaning then= ‘I bow to you.’
Usually used to greet elders as a sign of respect
(a more ‘respectful’ version of ‘Hello’).
VS
2. ‘Hidden‘ meaning= a salutation to a divinity/ to some ‘superior entity.’
Namaste is an invitation to see beyond physicality-
an invitation to honor the divine expression/
the ‘inner-soul’-
‘God‘-
who resides within each and every one of us all.
‘I see the universe in me,
I see the universe in you,
We are all one.’
Whether you want to view
(and use)
the word ‘Namaste’ as a simple greeting,
or,
as a way to embrace your spirituality,
its deep rooted Hindu origins make it fascinating,
and,
as someone who chooses to adopt the more ‘spiritual‘ perspective of the word-
its concept is so…
empowering,
inspiring,
hopeful
to me,
serving as a reminder–
that we are one–
truly.
