When I was a kid,
my idea of fun was editing Wikipedia pages
to say the most bizarre things-
things that would never pass as true:
‘The Queen is actually Lady Gaga dressed up as an old lady.’
‘The first person to land on the moon was Mr Blobby.’
‘Dogs do, in fact, have five legs, but three of them are internal…’
You get the gist-
complete nonsense.
Like when we rung the Chinese,
and we found it hilarious–
hysterical–
to order ‘a pair of size six jeans’ when they answered the phone…
Because,
when I was a kid,
you see,
everything was funny.
until…
it wasn’t.
until…
life got hard.
When was that shift?
When did my laughter get replaced
with tears
get replaced with…
nothing–
…
numbness.
When was that,
and,
when will the laughter/
the ‘silliness‘
return?
I miss it.
