If there was a button I could press that would let me end it all-
painlessly,
for me and for everyone I love-
erasing me from existence
and memory,
I still wouldn’t press it.
And, that’s how I know that things have changed,
that I’m getting better.
Life isn’t easy,
but I at least want to stay alive to live it now.
For, I have the knowledge within me that,
there are things ahead which will fill me with so much joy;
Dogs,
Holidays,
Sunsets,
Sunrises,
Friends,
Love-
but, only if I stay,
only if I stay here to experience it all.
And so, this is why I’m staying
alive-
because,
to quote C.S. Lewis;
‘there are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.’
– getting better-
